A Jolly Welcome to You All
Now I understand you are considering helping me on one of the greatest mysteries that Holmes and I have ever come across - The Tale of the Disappearing Beauty.
But understandably you are intrepid about such an undertaking, particularly if you have never been alongside us on a case.
Well to whet your appetite, allow me to recount a much shorter mystery that befell us. Holmes shone brilliantly, and I was incredulous at the speed and finality of his deductions. Well you will see…
I have recounted events, in prose which Holmes would condemn as tortuous. But those who have enjoyed the style of my case notes over the years will hopefully forgive my tendency for verbosity.
You will see the mystery arise and Holmes deduce. Yet all the threads are there for you to get there too. The clues lay in my recollection, and in the other documents I share:
- A newspaper cutting
- A memo from Sherlock’s brother, Mycroft, in his capacity of working for the Government.
- The beginnings of a handwritten note.
Above all, I exhort you to remember one of Holmes’ great maxims:
“When you have excluded the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth!”
Yours sincerely,
